Tension is a zen space in Montreal. Its warmth and comfort will charm you as soon as you step in. Built and organized to accomodate shibari practices and classes, its Japanese inspired aesthetic provides a calm environment in which to explore rope bondage.
We strive to create an environment free of racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia. It is important to us to keep to our values of inclusivity, body-positivity, and staying humble in our learning.
Helping the community grow, providing tools, a Safe(r) Space and guidance through leading by example. Supporting local artists in their development and maintaining a beautiful artistic learning space our community can be proud of.
Our approach to Shibari is akin to martial arts, we strive for safe(r) practices and discipline all the while remembering to have fun.
Students will progress through levels, or ranks of understanding.
The first introductory classe is fundamentals.
From there you will have access to workshops requiring a single column and knowledge of the basic frictions; X-Friction, Double Halfmoon & Kanuki.
Our progressive suspensions curriculum consists of four levels:
Level 1 - We learn the Mount fuji takate-kote and expand on our knowledge through floor play and introduction of new tools.
Level 2 - We are introduced to static suspensions and partials
Level 3 - We start looking at Dynamic suspensions
Level 4 - Dynamic suspensions incorporating objects / Hashira / bamboo, etc
We are working on other non suspension curriculums and activities as well for those whose ultimate goals are just floor / bedroom / or just less risk intensive.
