Kinbakuartistmiki is of cuban nationality, born and raised in south Florida until 2004, then moved to Baltimore where he resides currently. Miki started off his career as a musician and performer from 1999 - 2015. In 2008, Miki traveled to Japan and began inviting Japanese artists to the USA ranging from Bands, DJs, Calligraphers, Ikebana Artists, Dancers and more. Around 2014/2015 Miki saw a live Shibari performance in Japan and wanted to produce a show in the USA.
Kinbakuartistmiki's style practices a silent and observant form. It can be described as the practice of improvisation, movement and communication of the senses. "My style of ropework communicates through the ropes, listens, and responds in the moment with the tying partner and environment."
Having worked with Tenma Haru, Miho Wakabayashi, Hajime Kinoko in Baltimore to produce performances, Miki decided to travel back to Japan to study Shibari & Kinbaku. Beginning in 2016/2017 he first studied w/ Tenma Haru, then in 2018 w/ Kasumi Hourai and most recently in 2022-Today w/ Murasaki Haruan, Akane, and Iroha Suzuki in Japan.
Miki has had guidance and inspiration from Shodo Master Setsuhi Shiraishi since 2017. In addition, Setsuhi and Miki have developed the “Suminawa” performance together combining Shodo and Kinbaku.
Kinbakuartistmiki has performed, hosted workshops and exhibitions throughout the USA including NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, VA, FL. Kinbakuartistmiki also teaches regularly in Baltimore, Maryland at his studio.
