Who It’s For

Students must have completed Fundamentals to benefit from this class.

Nawajutsu is for those who want to go beyond simply putting rope on a body and into the deeper work of connection, responsibility, and presence through rope. This is a martial-arts–informed practice: structured, deliberate, and grounded in ritual rather than play.

The class emphasizes discipline, repetition, and clarity of movement. You will practice rope as a means of relating—learning how your choices, balance, timing, and attention affect the person in front of you and the people around you.

Because this work is not centered on erotic or playful engagement, exercises are done with rotating partners, not regular play partners. This allows students to:

  • practice responsibility without relying on familiar dynamics
  • refine communication and adaptability
  • engage with rope without performative intimacy
  • develop awareness of others beyond personal desire

This class is well suited for students—with or without a regular partner—who want to deepen their technical understanding, cultivate embodied awareness, and explore rope as a shared discipline within a collective space.

Consent & Partnering

All partner work is negotiated. Exercises are done with rotating partners in a martial-arts-informed context. You are always welcome to step out and observe at any time—this choice is fully respected.

Clear communication is expected throughout the class, and students are encouraged to work within their current skill level while maintaining a safe(r) mindset in relation to their experience and understanding.
